Homes - Cyprus

In June 2004 I took a 7 day holiday in Protaras, Cyprus to escape the ghastly weather we were having at the time in England. Whilst spending my time there relaxing by the pool and beach, I noticed that there only seemed to be clouds in the sky for an hour or so every day - making the island idyllic. I started to think that maybe I could spend my retirement in Cyprus, rather than Malta which had been my previous dream retirement location.

So, come September 2004 Scott and I went out to Cyprus this time staying in luxury at Le Meridien hotel in Limassol.  Wow, what a fantastic break this turned into! It was just soooo relaxing by their tranquil 'adults only' pool. Whilst on holiday we went house hunting to see what could be bought on the island, and for how much. Despite receiving admirable assistance from BuySellCyprus and their agent, most of the property available just did not appear to have the space that we thought would be needed in order to live on the island - whilst being perfect for short holidays.

Scott signed up to a PADI Divemaster course starting in March 2005 with Dive-In, Limassol, and I went out for a holiday break (and my birthday) at the end of March. Still looking for a house in a warm climate I went round the estate agents again, at this time having just about determined that Cyprus would not be able to offer the type of property that we wanted. All the older properties were either too dilapidated, too near the town centre and all the newly built houses appear to be on estates were the properties are too tightly packed together.

However, one of the estate agents I visited took me to a bungalow that was in the process of being built, at Moni just outside Limassol. It transpired that she in fact owned the bungalow next door, and it did indeed satisfy all my requirements except for the fact that it was still in the process of being built. It was outside Limassol, and on a site of only the two bungalows with views across to the sea and open land behind which is currently used as a football pitch (once every x years as far as can be worked out!!).
