Pastimes and Interests
As you can tell from the few groups of categories available from this page, leisure is not something which has occupied a huge amount of my life!!! I suppose that I have really dedicated myself, far too much I agree, to my work life. Now that I am semi-retired the time has come to address these deficiencies and to "get a life" - hence the interest in flying and microlights in particular! When it came to occupying myself outside work I was very much a couch potato - usually doing little more than watching TV, doing crosswords and surfing on the Internet.
Sports, the gym, six packs and so on are all alien to me... even though I know that my doctor would be more than happy if I were to stop smoking (yes, I am one of those evil people!!), lost some weight and got a bit fitter. I did make an effort, and joined a gym - but actually getting there to use the facilities was not an automatic process, and did not last that long!! Maybe it will take a stroke or something similar to hit me before I finally listen. In the meantime it's on with the TV and feet up on the settee when not actually working.
With Scott doing his PADI instructor course I just had to try Scuba diving, since I always like to snorkel (when in warm waters). Cyprus presented the ideal opportunity to try something new, so I have managed to obtain my PADI Open Water qualification - and have to admit that another world is opening up .....
Now (December 2005) a new interest has started .... I've bought a radio controlled helicopter to satisfy a childhood dream .... and help to while away the hours. Little did I know when I bought it that they were SO difficult to fly .. anyway - if I do catch the bug I'll just have to create a new web page for RC models ...... finally created April 2011
